Would you really want to him do it more than once? Sleep in heavenly peace, indeed.

Unfortunately the infinitely more interesting Sufjan song doesn't seem to be free in the UK. My Christmas stocking is already overfilled, I'll have to get that one next Christmas.

Has this been mentioned?

'The music genome project'! It's quite a laugh. Stick an artist name in, or song, and it will match it with the DNA of other artists/songs. From what I've seen, a nice mix of obvious and less well-known or obvious, e.g. Costello gets Landing on the Sidewalk by The Samples, which I've never heard of (doesn't seem like I've missed much). Nice way to hear a variety of stuff in a vein if you don't want to choose what you're playing.

I only heard a couple of songs before, and knew he and Aimee Mann were an 'item' at one point, but if anyone fancy to have a short glance at Jules Shear's catalogue, here it is (actually, it's quite good) :

http://jefitoblog.com/blog/?p=1071

Ron Sexsmith fans may find his excellent duet with Jules Shear available for download on this page. *

* I'm afraid it's only available till tomorrow.

Awesome site RTHTW - the Pete Townshend Lifehouse Demos are brilliant - demo's being rather a misnomer , these tracks are fully formed, richly produced, and really quite ming boggling, and are the source for just about every decent Who song from Who's Next onwards.

Also a fantastic Jethro Tull Live at Carnegie Hall from 1970.

Do you really mean to say you prefer Jethro Tull to the Velvet Underground?

I dont remember ever saying that ? However, I am not one of those who hold fast to the belief that VU/Punk = good and Jethro Tull/ Prog = bad.

I like the Velvet Undergound just fine, two completely different approaches to rock n roll, neither better nor worse, just different, but I dont like Nico's singing and if I had a choice between sitting through Sister Ray and Thick as a Brick it would be Thick as a Brick every time. Jethro Tull in 1970 were a very very fine band indeed, as evidenced by that Carnegie Hall recording.

Having been an 11 year old in 1972 and being fed a steady diet of my older brothers Tull, Floyd and Zeppelin records Ive never believed that 1977 was year zero!

That site has a classic bootleg - Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at The Main Point, 1975!!!!!!

http://fuelfriends.blogspot.com/2007/07 ... bruce.html

Many claim this the definitive version of Incident On 57th Street (which includes the sound of a police car siren in the background at the end of it). Thunder Road ('Wings For Wheels' at the time) is performed at a show for the first time. Suki Lahav is on violin and backing vocals, including on a version of Dylan's I Want You (not to my liking, but interesting nonetheless)... And Max Weinberg and Roy Bittan had already joined the band.

Born To Run hadn't yet been released, not till September that year, so you can see how songs like She's The One hadn't yet come together, but the ones from the first 2 albums... Rosalita, Spirit In The Night, It's Hard To Be A Saint In The City, New York City Serenade... whoa!

Yeah, Ive had that Springsteen boot for ages, and its fantastic - and you have to wonder what his record company were thinking with his offical live releases being so mediocre when great stuff like this exists - and there are plenty more - an incredible live performer who's offical live output is incredibly lacking - just like EC.

Apparently the original bootleg recording had some skips which are now corrected on these downloads.

Btw, this site has been offering some great Springsteen alternate takes, live versions, etc lately - http://absonderpop.blogspot.com/ They had (might still be up) a couple of alternate versions of Thunder Road, one of them sounding very funky in a The Wild, The Innocent & The E-Street Shuffle way.
