I've become a huge fan of The Unthanks.
Previously called Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, they are an English folk group from the North East of England.
The new album is...can I say exquisite! Just love the voices.

They won a couple of major awards in the UK last year.
Any fans?

Enjoyed the clog dancing on Later. Yes, great voices, and love the surname too.

Re: The Unthanks
Saw them in Derby recently. Just a bit special.
The newly expanded band, adding strings & brass etc, can create epic settings for what might otherwise be simply melodramatic.
Both sisters have excellent and distincttive voices, I'm particualrly taken by Rebecca's breathy vocals.
The final song that night (Here's the Tender Coming) brought a tear to my eye, as it name checks a number of places from my childhood.
Recomended.
